Bioinformatics
Unit Design,
Installation
and Administration.
Our consultants group
will
design
and install a complete small to medium size bioinformatics unit in your
site.
The main servers are installed with Linux OS and the users
machines
uses their prefered operation system (Windows, Mac OSX, or Linux
)
to access the servers. The result is a simple to use and powerfull
bioinformatics
system. Software applications needed perform the user's bioinformatics
analises
are identified, installed and integrated in the system. And
bioinformatics
workshops on the
theory
behind the sequence analises process and pratical use of the programs
can
be designed and runned in the new bioinformatics unit.
Basic Steps in Bioinformatics
Unit
Design:
"Designing a
bioinformatics
unit involve several steps. It is necessary to define which operating
system needed to be loaded, the required hardware, the necessary
software, and the
organisation of the flow of information."
Operation System:
Sequence analysis can be computationally intense and
demands
fast processing power and good internet connectivity. Also the
computers
servers have to be stable and permanently online. Although
Microsoft
Windows in the most widely used operating system in the world, Windows
had
proven to be slow and unstable for bioinformatics sequence analysis.
UNIX
is a stable operating system and is widely used in bioinformatics. UNIX
comes
in three main distributions, BSD, SVR4 and Linux. Linux is a UNIX
system
that is available for Intel x386 processors and personal computers
(PCs)
and was the chosen operating system to run the bioinformatics servers.
Hardware:
Bioinformatics
analysis
needs fast and reliable systems, Our option is to acquire
personal computers (PCs) with high processing power, and setting
multiprocessors
clusters.
Software:
Genetic analysis is complex and necessite the use of
several
bioinformatics software applications. Many different software
applications
are needed to edit, align and perform evolutionary, and protein
sequence
analysis. The software programs needed to perform genetic analysis are
identified,
downloaded and installed on the bionformatics system.
