- Module Two - Advanced
Bioinformatics for Medical Research Workshop.
The advanced genetic analysis workshop
is designed to be
compatible with Linux/MacOS X or Windows/PC operating system.
We suggest running this module in a four to five day course (on
the first day all software applications are loaded in the machines).
The workshop lectures includes a mixture of theoretical and pratical
lectures on Sophisticated analyses with
PAUP*,
PAML, GENIE, EVE, ARLEQUIN using real
data from the laboratory.
The pratical
section of the workshop uses virus examples and real data from the
laboratory. Up to date this course module are adapted
to different human
pathogens, such: Human Immunodeficiency Virus type 1 (HIV-1),
Human
Hepatitis
C Virus (HCV), Human Hepatitis B Virus (HBV), Micobacterium
Tuberculosis (TB), Avian Influenza, etc.
Day One:
In the first day the computers
are configured and the
participants present their work and objectives within the course.
Day Two:
Introduction to Bioinformatics
and Sequence Analysis
tools.
Advanced Sequence Management.
Sequence alignment in ClustalX and BioEdit (Windows), and the Genetic
Data Environment (Linux/Mac OSX)..
Day Three:
Phylogenetic Reconstruction with
PAUP:* (Likelihood).
Molecular Clock Analysis with PAUP* (NJ) (3 theories)
Day Four:
Evolution Rate analysis with
PAML and TipDate.
Break Point identification for Recombination.
Day Five:
Protein Domains Analysis
Protein Structure Analysis.
Proteomics Introduction.
